Queen Mary 2 - Photo Tour and Voyage Report (Part 3)

The final part of this photo tour will be a lot less wordy than the others. This post contains a set of photos I took during a fantastic sunset as I walked around QM2's wonderful open decks.

I will leave these without captions or description, as they predominantly speak for themselves. The series starts at the promenade on deck 7, before moving through the tiered aft decks to the top of the ship, and then back down again to complete a circuit of the promenade.

FINAL IMPRESSIONS

Overall the crossing on Queen Mary 2 far exceeded my expectations. Anyone expecting a true luxury cruise will I'm sure come home a little disappointed, but QM2 stood out to me above several other mass-market cruise lines. This is an absolutely incredible and completely unique ship. It would be difficult to tire of the view as the storms and the waves rush past outside.

I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who is considering it, and I'm sure that I'll be back on board myself before too long. Maybe next time I'll try to ease off a bit on the martinis...

    Lovely, and a welcome wide variety of inside/outside views. I was thrilled to see your 3 lots of photos, especially as we'll be on board next week! Only one very slight quibble: I would have welcomed a few more captions in Part 3. For example, where is that narrow white staircase?

      Thanks for the kind comments! The narrow staircase links the aft of deck 8 to the private grills class area on deck 11. If you look a few photos before the ones you mention you can see the narrow staircase cutting up through the superstructure. I may update part 3 soon with a few small captions.

    I am so glad to see your posts and pictures. I read another review on this board that had me questioning my decision to book QM2 for the fall. Now I am ready to call my TA. Thank you so, so much!

MS Trollfjord - Photo Tour

Up next in the series of photo tours on board the ships of Hurtigruten is MS Trollfjord. Regular readers of this blog will know the drill by now; MS Trollfjord is one of a fleet of 11 ships that together offer daily departures from Bergen on the Express route along the coast of Norway. The ships serve a dual roll as both cruise ships and cargo ships, and are vital in connecting many of the smaller communities in the northern part of the country. Britannia

Today P&O's flagship Britannia called into Bergen. I was able to watch her sailaway, and took the following photos from the cruise berth at Bontelabo. With sing-along pop music blaring from her loudspeakers her departure was less than subtle, but spirits seemed high as passengers enjoyed the sunny Bergen afternoon. Britannia was built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, and entered service for P&O in March 2015. With a tonnage of 143,730 she is the second-largest ship that will visit Bergen this year (surpassed only by Cunard's Queen Mary 2 ). Britannia has space for up to 4324 passengers and a crew of 1400. Despite her high-sides and slightly blocky appearance, Britannia is a relatively handsome, well-balanced ship, and she certainly made an impression on the Bergen waterfront whilst she was alongside.
