MS Vesterålen - Photo Tour

One of the more unusual members of the Hurtigruten fleet is MS Vesterålen . She operates on the 11-day round trip from Bergen, calling at 34 ports along the coast of Norway. The route is popular with cruise tourists keen to experience 'the most beautiful voyage in the world', and also serves as a lifeline for many smaller communities in Norway's more isolated north. Black Watch & Vesterålen

On Friday afternoon I took the opportunity to take a few photos in and around Bergen. A selection of ships were in port, including Fred Olsen's Black Watch which departed for Newcastle at around 17:30. Black Watch departs Bergen Built in Finland for Royal Viking Line, Black Watch entered service in 1972 as Royal Viking Star. She has changed ownership several times throughout her career, with periods sailing as Westward for Norwegian Cruise Lines, and as Star Odyssey for Royal Cruise Line. In 1996 she transfered to the Fred Olsen fleet, with whom she has been sailing ever since.
