Now here's a ship I've been looking forward to seeing up-close...
On friday Disney Magic made her one and only call into Bergen this year. She was the first ship built for the newly formed Disney Cruise Line, and entered service in 1998 to much fanfare and expectation. It seems the venture has been a success, and Disney Magic has since been joined by sister ship Disney Wonder, along with a pair of lanrger ships in 2011 & 2012.
Stylistically, Disney Magic and her fleetmates are instantly recognisable. In typical Disney fashion, her design has the feel of a 'theme park ocean liner'. Where this approach could have led to a tacky and unattractive ship, infact the result has been quite the opposite. Disney Magic is handsome and well-balanced, with her beautiful raked bow and smart black hull giving her a timeless profile that looks as good today is it did when she was built two decades ago.
It was another wet, cloudy day in Bergen, but Disney Magic still made a big impression. The following photos were taken alongside at Bontelabo during her departure from the city.
