Holland America cruise ship Rotterdam (1997) in Bergen, Norway

Today Holland America's Rotterdam called into Bergen.

Entering service in 1997, Rotterdam has a tonnage of 61,850 and can accommodate 1,400 passengers and 400 crew.

Despite having undergone a major refurbishment that saw that the addition of an extra block of cabins at the aft end of the superstructure, Rotterdam has a handsome and restrained profile. She looked really smart alongside at Bontelabo, particularly considering she already has 20 years of service behind her.

Hopefully the rain earlier today didn't dampen the passengers' spirits too much, and they were able to enjoy their day in this beautiful city, and the little bit of sunshine that came through during the sailaway.

MS Trollfjord - Photo Tour

Up next in the series of photo tours on board the ships of Hurtigruten is MS Trollfjord. Regular readers of this blog will know the drill by now; MS Trollfjord is one of a fleet of 11 ships that together offer daily departures from Bergen on the Express route along the coast of Norway. The ships serve a dual roll as both cruise ships and cargo ships, and are vital in connecting many of the smaller communities in the northern part of the country. Britannia

Today P&O's flagship Britannia called into Bergen. I was able to watch her sailaway, and took the following photos from the cruise berth at Bontelabo. With sing-along pop music blaring from her loudspeakers her departure was less than subtle, but spirits seemed high as passengers enjoyed the sunny Bergen afternoon. Britannia was built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, and entered service for P&O in March 2015. With a tonnage of 143,730 she is the second-largest ship that will visit Bergen this year (surpassed only by Cunard's Queen Mary 2 ). Britannia has space for up to 4324 passengers and a crew of 1400. Despite her high-sides and slightly blocky appearance, Britannia is a relatively handsome, well-balanced ship, and she certainly made an impression on the Bergen waterfront whilst she was alongside.
