Viking Star

Cruise ship Viking Star docked in Bergen, Norway

Over the weekend Viking Star called into Bergen for a 2-day stop in the city.

She is the first of Viking Crusies ocean cruise ships. Along with her sisters Viking Sea and Viking Sky, another 5 ships in this class are currently on order.

With a tonnage of 47,800 and a length of 228m, she can accommodate 900 passengers and 600 crew. This high crew-to-passenger ratio reflects Viking Cruises' position as a luxury cruise brand,

Viking Star was named in a ceremony in Bergen on 17th May 2015; the Norwegain national day. A certain amount of controversy was generated when the mayor of Bergen (and Viking Star's godmother) Trude Drevland reportedly accepted several gifts from Viking cruises, in breach of strict Norwegian anti-bribery laws.

The following photos were taken as she was docked alongside at Skolten Syd; the first set as I passed her on a boat trip, and the second set from Nordnes, where Hurtigruten's Midnatsol was also in port.
